Bundesliga side 1. FC Koln have announced the signing of Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare on a season-long loan move from Valmieras FK with an option to buy permanently.
The 19-year-old was on target a remarkable 15 times in 16 appearances for Valmieras in the Latvian topflight Virsliga which got underway in June.
Festac-born Arokodare now hopes to keep up his brilliant form and steal the spotlight in Germany. Speaking to official club website after his unveiling, he stated:
“For me, it is a dream come true. I have always wanted to play in the Bundesliga. For FC, I want to score many goals and develop myself further. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Koln managing director, Horst Heldt went on to reveal the key reason the club swooped up the striker to add to their firepower. He said: “Tolu is a young striker who has the potential to develop and brings many good qualities: he is athletic, good in the air and fast. Naturally, he will have to get used to the Bundesliga level. However, there is the advantage that he is already at match fitness and comes to us fully motivated.”
Koln will begin their 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign when they play host to Hoffeinheim on Saturday.
