Review of Team Nigeria’s activities at African Championships on Day 4
An action-packed day it was for Team Nigeria at the ongoing African Senior Championships at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Saturday.
One Gold and a Bronze medal was claimed by Nigeria in the course of activities across various events on Day 4 of the Championships.
Here is a review of all the actions:
Praise Idamadudu, above all odds, booked a her place in Sunday’s final of the women’s 200m. She finished 3rd in the heats with a time of 24.04s before progressing to the semi-finals, where she clocked 23.92s to finish in 3rd place again.
Divine Oduduru finished 2nd in the men’s 200m heats in a time of 20.89s. He further booked his place in the final having managed a 2nd place finish in the semi-finals.
Emmanuel Arowolo, on his part, clocked 21.10s to finish 2nd in his heat then went on to finish 3rd in the semi-finals.
Jerry Jakpa impressively clocked a Personal Best (PB) time of 20.87s to finish 2nd in his heat, but could only manage a 5th place finish in the semi-finals.
Women’s 400m Hurdles
Glory Nathaniel won her heat in the women’s 400m Hurdles, clocking 55.96s, while Rita Ossai finished clocked 58.22s to finish 2nd in her heat. Both will represent Nigeria in the final on Sunday.
Nigeria’s representative in the women’s 800m, Abike Egbeniyi clocked 2:04.67s to finish 5th in her heat.
Men’s Triple Jump
Ineh Emmanuel made a heave of 16.09m to finish 8th in the men’s Triple Jump final.
Men’s 110m Hurdles
Abejoye Oyeniyi bagged Silver medal in the men’s 110m Hurdles final having finished 2nd, crossing the finish line in 13.87s.
Meanwhile, Martins Ogieriakhi clocked 13.93s to finish in 4th place.
National Record Holder, Kelechi Nwanga claimed Nigeria’s only Gold medal of the day in the women’s Javelin final. She hit the 56.96m mark to emerge champion.
The quartet of Henry Okorie, Isah Salihu, Daniel Atinaya & Sikiru Adeyemi placed 3rd in the men’s 4x400m Relay heats, booking their place in Sunday’s final.
