Nigeria sprints queen, Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor is set to come up against some of the World’s best sprinters at the first leg of the IAAF Diamond League series in Doha, Qatar on Friday, May 4.
The 29yr old has been listed to race against a stacked field that includes Olympic Champion, Elaine Thompson; newly crowned World Indoor Champion, Murielle Ahoure; Double World Championship Silver medallist, Marie Jose TaLou; Dutch sensation, Dafne Schippers, among others.
The spotlight for the win will be on the Nigerian, having had a series of outstanding performances in 2018, and has been tagged by Athletics pundits to be in the form of her life.
One of these performances was setting a new African record of 22.04s, to break the previous record of 22.07s, which stood for 22yrs at the Wes Kittley Invitational back in March.
Thereafter, competing in her first 100m race of the season, she clocked a windy 10.72s (2.5m/s) which could as well have been the new African record, if not for the illegal wind.
Okagbare, will aim to produce another brilliant performance in Doha, and prove that she’s back to take her place as one of the top best sprinters in the world.
