Okagbare secures 200m qualification for Olympics, World Champs
Blessing Okagbare carried on her impressive season start at the Nanjing World Challenge where she clocked a Season Best 22.58s in the 200m on Tuesday.
Up against double Olympics Champion Elaine Thompson, Asian Champion Salwa Eid Naser and a handful of other elite athletes from across the world, Okagbare put in a decent performance to finish 3rd in the race at the Eastern Chinese city.
Meanwhile, Thompson won the event with a 22.40s clocking with Naser settling for 2nd place after storming to Lifetime Best of 22.56s, just edging Okagbare on the line.
With Okagbare’s record on Tuesday, she has now secured qualification for the 200m events of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the World Athletics Championships.
It’s a massive turn of good fortunes for the Nigerian speedster, who last year endured a torrid time in the treatment room, as she – only last Saturday – met the IAAF qualification standards for the 100m of both international competitions.
