Two Nigerian athletes in Blessing Okagbare and Tobi Amusan are set to compete in the 10th leg of the 2019 IAAF Diamond League in London scheduled to hold on July 20-21, 2019.
Amusan earlier this week lowered her Personal Best to 12.49s at the Sotteville meet in France, soaring high to world’s No. 3 spot in the 100m Hurdles.
Interestingly, the Commonwealth champion is the highest ranked athlete for the event and she will definitely fancy her chances of claiming her first ever Diamond League win in the English capital.
She will however face stern test from top athletes in America’s Nia Ali and Nadine Visser in her heat while a race against Jamaica star Danielle Williams (who is in the other heat) is also in the offing.
On Sunday, Okagbare, who has been in remarkable form of late, will face off with Dina Asher-Smith, Marie Jose TaLou, Michelle-Lee Ahye and a handful of other speedsters in the women’s 100m event at the meeting.
The Nigerian sprinter missed out despite being enlisted provisionally for the Lausanne and Monaco DL’s due to personal issues but is now set to return to action in the prestigious meet.
Okagbare notably claimed back-to-back victories in her last two Diamond League appearances in Rabat and Stanford, and she will surely hope to continue her winning streak when she steps out to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this weekend.
