Ofili, Okon-George qualify for 400m semis in Doha

Team Nigeria’s duo of Favour Ofili and Patience Okon-George picked up qualification spots to the women’s 400m semi-finals on Day 4 of the World Athletics Championships ongoing in Doha, Qatar.

Teenage sensation, Ofili began what’s her debut campaign at the Championships with an impressive performance in Heat 4 of the quarter-mile event, clocking a new Personal Best (PB) of 51.51s to finish 3rd.

While Ofili picked an automatic qualification spot, her compatriot Okon-George had to wait till the conclusion of the heats to confirm her qualification.

The veteran in her case clocked 51.77s to place 6th in Heat 2 and qualify as one of the six fastest losers.

However, it was a race to forget for Blessing Okagbare, who after clocking 22.72s to place 4th in her women’s 200m heat, faced disqualification for lane infringement.

Later in the evening, Oduduru came 8th in the third heat of the men’s 200m semi-finals with a time of 20.84s.
