Liebherr 2018: Team Nigeria earn massive victory over Turkey in Day 1
Quadri, Toriola, Abiodun dazzle as team record 3-0 win
Nigeria’s table tennis team recorded massive victory over their Turkish counterparts in their first match in Group F at the ongoing Liebherr 2018 World Team Table Tennis Championships.
Aruna Quadri, Segun Toriola and Bode Abiodun all earned victories in their respective games as Nigeria defeated Turkey 3-0 in the Match 3 encounter.
Team Nigeria’s poster boy Quadri was assigned the role to get a good start for the West Africans – and this, he succeeded at as he dazzled Turkey’s Ibrahim Gunduz 1-3 [7-11, 11-5, 4-11, 6-11] in the first game.
Veteran Toriola continued in this realm for the team as he managed to pip Abdullah Yigenler 2-3 [15-13, 5-11, 6-11, 12-10, 9-11] in game 2.
Abiodun wrapped up victory for Nigeria with a 1-3 [7-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-9] win against Gencey Menge in the third game.
With the victory, Nigeria have earned two points and are joint top with Slovakia and Argentina in Group F standings.
The team will face Argentina in their next fixture on Monday by 12 noon.
