Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has sealed a spot in the final of the men’s Shot Put at the ongoing World Athletics Championships.
The Nigerian weight thrower threw a distance of 20.94m on his second attempt, surpassing the automatic qualification mark of 20.90m to clinch the ticket to the final.
On his first attempt, he hit 20.12m before improving on his mark by 78 centimeters to qualify.
Recall that 26-year-old failed to make it to the final on his international debut for Nigeria at the last edition of the Championships in London 2017. His best mark then was 19.72m.
Interestingly, the Commonwealth Games Silver medallist is, this time around, the first athlete from Team Nigeria to emerge a finalist in an event in Doha.
The final billed for Saturday will see Enekwechi lock horns with Commonwealth Champion Tomas Walsh, Pan American Games Champion Darlan Romani and other elite throwers from across the world.
