D’Tigress claim first ever World Cup win against Turkey in Tenerife
Nigeria women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress made history on Sunday at the ongoing FIBA World Cup in Spain as they bagged their first ever win at the competition against Turkey in their second group game.
On the heels of a disappointing 86-68 loss to Australia in the group opener on Saturday, the D’Tigress showed determination and strong willpower to upset their Turkish counterparts and boost their chances of qualification from Group B.
Guard Sarah Ogoke amazingly bagged 22 points for the Nigerians as they won 74-68 against the Turkish side.
The Nigerian team made a sloppy start to the match at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife as they lost the first quarter 7-15.
The girls got their acts together in the second quarter and managed a 22-17 win to make the score 29-32 before heading to the half-time break.
Ogoke was the undisputed star in the third quarter as D’Tigress amassed 23 points as against Turkey’s 10.
The Nigerians finished the job in fourth quarter as they put up a tough contest for the Turkish side, who could only manage a 26-22 win in the quarter.

D’Tigress have a date with their Argentine counterparts in the group showdown on Tuesday and a win in the clash will most likely see them through to the next round.
