D’Tigress book place in quarter-finals of 2019 Women’s AfroBasket
Nigeria’s Women Basketball team, D’Tigress have soared into the quarter-finals of the 2019 Women’s AfroBasket ongoing in Senegal.
The Nigerian ladies thrashed their Cameroonian counterparts 39-106 on Tuesday night to maintain their 100% record in the group phase and become the 2nd team to book a place in the last 8 – after Group C leader Mali.
In their first game in their campaign for the defence of their 2017 title, D’Tigress showed they are yet a force to reckon with on the continent as they secured an emphatic 75-26 win over Tunisia last Saturday.
On Tuesday, they posted even a much improved performance versus a hard fighting Cameroon.
The 1st quarter was a cruise for Otis Hughley’s girls as they raced to bag 17 unreplied points in the opening five minutes before the Cameroon ladies could find their feet and see out the first period 7-21.
The Indomitable Lionesses came back with a point to prove in the 2nd quarter but D’Tigress’ individual brilliance ensured they extended their lead by another 12 points, with both teams going into the half-time break with a 23-49 score.
The Nigerians maintained dominance in the 3rd quarter and finished off the job emphatically in the final quarter to secure a 39-106 win.
They are the first team to reach the 100 points mark at the tournament so far, and that can be attributed to their all-round performance with as many as five players making double figures in points.
They will player the winner of the Round of 16 clash between DR Congo and Cameroon on Thursday.
