CAA names 77 athletes for IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava
Ahead of the 2018 IAAF Continental Cup scheduled to hold from September 8-9, the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has named 77 athletes from across Africa to make up its team.
The forthcoming competition, which is the 3rd edition of the Continental Cup, is billed for Ostrava, Czech Republic.
The list is composed of 20 South African athletes; 16 athletes from Nigeria; 9 Kenyans; 6 Moroccans; 4 athletes each from Egypt and Ethiopia; 3 athletes from Botswana; 2 athletes each from Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia and Algeria; and an athlete each from Burundi, Ghana, Swaziland, Uganda and Djibouti.
It is evident from the list that the African team to the Continental Cup was selected from top performers at the just concluded 21st African Senior Championships held in Asaba, Delta State.
The Nigerian athletes on the list are: Tobi Amusan, Glory Nathaniel, Grace Anigbata, Temilola Oginrinde, Kelechi Nwanaga, Blessing Okagbare, Joy Udo-Gabriel, Rosemary Chukwuma, Ese Brume, Chioma Onyekwere, Divine Oduduru, Abejoye Oyeniyi, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.
Meanwhile, the trio of Yinka Ajayi (4x400m), Mercy Ntia-Obong (4x100m) and Chidi Okezie (4x400m) were picked as reserves.
